5 beaches you didn't know in Mykonos

Cyclades ● Mykonos ● 28 November 2018
Mykonos is one of the most popular and touristic islands in Greece. But that doesn't mean that is has no undiscovered place. In fact, there are many untouched spots, where you can enjoy a more private and secluded side of the Cycladic island. If you want to swim and sunbathe away from mass tourism, you may think that you have no chance on an island, where all beaches are organised, full of touristic facilities, restaurants at the beachfront and noisy beach bars. But the greatest asset of Mykonos is that there you can combine both: cosmopolitanism and vivid nightlife with peace, privacy and relaxing vacation. Read here about five beautiful beaches you definitely didn't know in Mykonos and explore the island away from the crowds.

Agios Sostis

Agios Sostis is one of the most famous undeveloped beaches of Mykonos and is the quieter version of the beach nearby, Panormos. It is a great option for those searching peace, but you have to avoid it on a windy day with meltemi. Located on the northern side of the island, it can have huge waves when blowing meltemi, the northern wind that blows during July and August in the Cyclades. However, this beach can also be calm and impress you with its wild beauty.

Agios Sostis Beach in Mykonos

Kapari is a small beach on the western side of Mykonos that will charm you with its simple natural beauty. It is the perfect spot for romance and peaceful swim, and thus it is also nudism-friendly. The sunset there is just magnificent!

Choulakia is one of the few beaches on the island with pebbles. It is a natural site of particular beauty only 5 km from Mykonos Town and it is prohibited to remove any rocks. It has nothing to offer, no taverna or bar nearby and it is the ultimate destination for the alternative travellers of Mykonos. Located on the western side, it is one of the best spots to watch the sunset in Mykonos. Don't be discouraged by the fact that the bay is pebbled. It has the same turquoise sea waters as the whole island.

Fokos is located on the northern coast of the island and is a fine sandy and secluded beach with deep blue waters. It is almost unknown to the tourist due to the difficult dirt road that you have to drive in order to reach it. It is still unorganised, so don't forget to take umbrella and water with you.

Fokos Beach in Mykonos

Next to Fokos you will find another undeveloped but charming beach, Mersini. The best way to reach it is by boat, because the road is bumpy. Thus, Mersini is one of the most favourite bays for surfers and yacht charters that find a peaceful shelter there.
