5 Best Greek Islands for families

It is hard to choose among 600 Greek Islands which one will suite you best! Especially when you travel with your family and kids your standards are high and specific. We did the hard job for you and chose the 5 Best Greek Islands that are the best ones when you travel with your family and your little ones!

1. Paros

Paros tick all the boxes when it comes to a long list of things to do on the island. Various activities, safe waters, beautiful mountain villages with friendly locals, yoga centres, excellent food and healthy products and endless choices for kids to play safe and enjoy their holidays. Although Paros can be quite busy during the summer season it is a very well organised island and you will find everything you want without the hustle and bustle of a massive touristic destination. Learn to do windsurfing or SUP with your kids, enjoy sailing with small or big sailing boats, chose one of the various kids gardens and play schools all year round and be carefree and relaxed on the beach with a smoothie or a light cocktail while your kids play safe close to you. Paros is a family friendly island and the weather starts to get warm from April so you can visit it earlier in spring or autumn which are both very good choices if you want to avoid the peak of the summer season in July and August.

2. Antiparos

A tiny little island right next to Paros Antiparos is a beautiful destination on its own. Antiparos is a very quiet island that offers high quality accommodation and restaurants, crystal clear waters and safe beaches for kids and adults and it is ideal for family holidays in Greece. You can reach the island of Antiparos from Paros where you can easily go by ferry from the port of Peiraias and then take the small boat to Antiparos that is on a daily basis. It will take you lest than half an hour to reach Antiparos from Paros and the boats are small and safe for all the family. Make sure you buy your ticket early if you plan to visit Antiparos in August as it is quite busy. There are not too many hotels and rooms for rent on the island so if you leave everything for the last minute you might find some difficulties to find what you want.

3. Amorgos

Amorgos island became famous when the French director Luc Besson filmed the movie "Deep Blue" back in 1988.
It is an unspoiled island in Cyclades that surprise the visitors with its tranquility and relaxed atmoshere. The locals are super friendly and the quality of food is very high. The monastery of Hozioviotissa is a unique sight that you must see when you visit the island. Even in the summer season you will find your peace of mind because it is never so croundy that you can't stand it! Try to find and participate in one of the many local fiestas and events, it will surely be a unique experience!

4. Crete

Crete is a "queen" of the family friendly Greek Islands. It has three airports plus many ferry routes on a daily basis so going to the island can be super easy all year round. The ferries that depart from Peiraias are super comfortable and perfect for kids too, as they usually have play grounds for little kids and restaurants that serve Greek snacks and food.
Crete is a big island but if we had to choose one region that is ideal and yet very unspoiled is the region of Rethimno. You can visit many beautiful beaches that lie on the south of the island that are super nice and safe. Try to see the small village of Agios Pavlos -especially if you love yoga and outdoor activities and wellness - and Triopetra; the sunsets from there will amaze you and your kids!

5. Spetses

Picturesque and close to Athens and Peiraias port Spetses is the ideal choice if you want to enjoy a beautiful Greek island full of green trees and fresh air. Its unique architecture will amaze you and the fact that cars are not aloud in the canter of the island make it the perfect choice for small or older kids. Everything is accessible on foot, the restaurants and taverns serve excellent fresh food, literally the catch of the day, the apartments for rent and the hotels offer very nice accommodation and the beaches around the island are super nice and gorgeous all year round. Spetses island is very close to Athens and to the other islands of Hydra and Poros so you can combine your holidays with a little bit of Greek island hopping.
