5 best value for money Greek islands

Anafi ● Ikaria ● Kythira ● Serifos ● Thasos ● 16 January 2017

As hotels and tourist businesses in Greece reduce their prices due to the economic crisis, there is great value to be found all over the country. If you are planning now your summer Greek vacations, you can find excellent bargains and deals that will help you spend your vacations on a budget. These Greek islands have kept their prices low, but you should not forget: the same warm sun shines on them, and the same sea hugs their beaches. Greek Island Hopping is waiting for you!

1. Anafi

This small island of Cyclades is the perfect destination for everyone, who wants relaxed and affordable holidays. Here, you will eat fresh fish, and the double room will cost you 30€ in July. The coasts are astonishing with the blue crystal waters of the Aegean Sea, and the small town is typically Cycladic thanks to its white houses with their colourful windows.

2. Serifos

Serifos offers the same advantages with Anafi plus the exquisite nightlife. Beautiful and romantic Cycladic architecture, some of the best beaches in Greece and the short distance from Athens (only 2 hours from Piraeus Port) make this island a top value for money choice for you and your family.

3. Thasos

This island near Thessaloniki waits to be explored, and one thing is for sure. After some years, all tour operators will organise vacations in Thasos. The combination of fine-sand beaches with shady pine woods makes this place ideal for families. It is still an inexpensive destination, and you can find there luxury hotels  in unbeatable prices.

4. Ikaria

Ikaria is the island, where, according to the legend, Icarus crashed after flying too close to the sun. Ikaria is closer to Turkey than to Greece, and this is maybe the reason why it has remained unspoiled. Do you want to travel to the Indian Ocean, but you can't afford the trip? There is a beach in Ikaria, which is famous all over the country and is called Seychelles. The waters there are as warm, as blue-green and as clear as in Seychelles, and of course the rates are much lower!

5. Kythira

Kythira is the legendary home of Aphrodite, and it has inspired many artists over the centuries. The island's location under the Peloponnese Peninsula has kept it a pure destination for those, who know. Golden sand beaches, pine woods for hiking and Venetian castles to explore are only some of the amazing things you can do on Kythira. In June, July and September, you can have there unforgettable vacations in unbelievable prices!
