5 ideas for a romantic weekend in Athens

Athens ● 28 July 2017

Athens is a city, which offers its visitors amazing things to do. In Athens, you can literally do whatever you want and create the vacations you have in your mind. Athens is a flexible city, and if you have come here with your other half and you are searching for places and ideas to create the perfect romantic scenery for both of you, then these suggestions will impress you and guarantee you some days full of love and romanticism.

1. Day trip in Sounio

Sounio is the cape of Athens, one hour from Athens Center, and also the only place, which overlooks the Aegean Sea. In Sounio, are located some wonderful beaches with crystal waters, where you can swim and sunbathe. In the area, you can find secluded and unorganised beaches, like K.A.P.E., to feel total privacy and relaxation, although during the summer months on weekends these beaches can be crowded. However, if you are willing to walk, you can find private coves. Then, you can eat in one of the fish taverns under the cliff of the ancient temple of Poseidon, by the sea and with the magnificent view of the archaeological site, which looks stunning at night.

2. Eat on Lycabetttus hill

Lycabetttus hill in the area of Kolonaki in Athens Center is the perfect spot to have breathtaking view of the whole city, the sea and the mountains around it. You can take the cable car and after a few minutes, you will be on the top of a cliff, where a bar with cocktails and a luxury restaurant are waiting for you to sit and enjoy one of the most romantic spots in Athens.

3. Visit Athens Riviera

Athens Riviera is the stunning coastline of Athens, from Piraeus to Cape Sounio. In this coastline, you can find many organised beaches, but the ultimate romanticism is in the beach bars and restaurants by the sea. In my opinion, the best scenery for people in love are the bar-restaurants Island and Ballux, where the elegant tables by the sea and the lounge music in the evening and early at night are ideal to express your love to your beloved one.

4. Climb on Pnyx

Pnyx is the cliff in Athens Center, where in the antiquity, ancient Athenians voted, establishing thus the democracy. Nowadays, it is a cliff open to the public, where is located a monument. Pnyx is a popular spot for young couples, who gather there, because it has a stunning view of the Saronic Gulf and Acropolis, without having to pay anything, just sitting on the rocks drinking beers and feeling the vibes of this sacred place.

5. Walk in Mikrolimano in Piraeus

Piraeus is a wonderful area to spend your night by the sea. Mikrolimano is a lovely marina with many sailing boats, where you can find many fish taverns as well as luxury restaurants with creative Greek cuisine, such as Varoulko. Afterwards, you can walk in Kastella, the area above Mikrolimano, which has neoclassical buildings, narrow streets and a beautiful view of Piraeus Port.
