5 reasons to visit Naxos

Naxos ● 28 August 2017

The exclusive Island Pass of Hostelbay gives you the opportunity to visit at an amazing price, among other popular Greek islands, such as Mykonos and Santorini, also Naxos, a Cycladic island with off-the-beaten-path tourism and elegant beauty. Are you wondering about the reasons to visit Naxos? We can describe for you only some of them and suggest visiting Naxos to explore all the reasons that make this island unique.

Delicious cuisine

The cuisine of Naxos will travel you in a gastronomic paradise. In the local dishes of the coastal regions fish and seafood are prevailing. In the cuisine of the plains, vegetable and cattle dishes have a leading role, while in the mountainous villages, goat and sheep dishes constitute the Naxian cuisine. Among the best savoury dishes are patoudo, which is stuffed lamb, koukoulomaeria (soup with beans), pig rosto and sefoukloti (sweet-savoury pie). Among the best local products you can try and buy in Naxos, are the Naxian potatoes, the sweet tomato, the dairy products, such as graviera or xinotyro cheese, and the citron liqueur. Naxos was the place that charmed with its cuisine the top chef Anthony Bourdain. That can't be a coincidence!

Sandy beaches

The western side of Naxos has the best beaches of the island. Long, sandy beaches with crystal waters, like Agios Prokopios beach (Naxos), Agios Georgios Naxos and Mikri Vigla Beach (Naxos) are waiting for you to lie on them and enjoy the warm sun of the Greek summer. These beaches are also perfect for water-sports, such as kite- and wind-surf.

Beautiful villages

Apiranthos is the most famous mountainous village in Naxos, but there are also other traditional villages in the mainland of the island that are picturesque and worth a visit. Halki, Filoti and Potamia are surrounded by green nature and with their authentic character, they can give you a true, different experience away from the mass tourism. Can you imagine that on an island you will find stunning, well-preserved inland villages?

Archaeological sites

For the fans of history and ancient art, Naxos is the place to be. Interesting historical sites and museums, such as Portara, the gate on the top of the cliff above the port, Kouros statues and the ancient temple of Demeter, can turn your vacations into a cultural trip full of unforgettable experiences thanks to the long and fascinating history of Naxos.

Family-friendly

Naxos is one of the most family-friendly islands in Cyclades. It offers its visitor many interesting things to do,  while its beaches are family-friendly with soft sand, shallow waters, all touristic facilities and water-sports to enjoy many activities with your children.
