Folegandros is an unexplored paradise that can give to its visitor a different, alternative and unique aura that is unforgettable for everyone. This small, rocky and mountainous island of Cyclades with only 650 inhabitants is located in a close distance to Milos and Santorini. The last years it has become fashionable for the Athenians that look for something different, but Folegandros remains an authentic Greek island, ideal for peaceful and romantic vacations.

1. Chora
Folegandros Chora the capital town of the island, is built with whitewashed houses with colourful windows and bougainvilleas hanging on them that strongly remind of the traditional Cycladic architecture. The cobblestone streets lead to the village’s squares, where the traveller can eat in romantic atmosphere local delicacies such as matsata and souroto and drink raki with honey, the famous rakomelo, which is considered the alternative option to the cocktails. On the top of the hill, from where you can have a magnificent view of Folegandros Chora, is located the impressive church of Panagia with a stone path leading to it. Generally, Folegandros Chora is the best place on the island, where you should definitely spend the most of your evenings and nights.

2. Ano Mera
Another picturesque spot is also the village of Ano Mera, which is a traditional rural settlement from the 19th century. There, you can find the Folk Art Museum as well as traditional taverns, from which you can enjoy the sunset painting the steep hills pink and orange.

3. Karavostassi
Karavostassi Folgandros is the small port of the island and its busiest spot. There, you can find many fish taverns as well as beach bars by the sea, where you can eat and drink your cocktail feeling the breeze of the sea.

4. Beaches
The beaches of Folegandros are pebbly and covered with tamarisk trees. The most famous beach is Katergo, which is accessible only by boat from Karavostassi Folgandros. On the west side of the island, is located Agali beach with its azure, crystal- clear waters and sheer cliff drops, whilst close to it you can reach from a path the beach of Agios Nikolaos. On the north-eastern side of the island, are located the beaches of Vorina, with green peculiar stones, Agios Georgios and Serfiotiko, accessible only by caique or on foot.

5. Hiking paths
Folegandros is famous also for its footpaths, which give the traveller the opportunity for long hiking excursions. From Folegandros Chora, you can hike to the beaches around Agali or to Katergo and  Karavostassi Folgandros, but especially from Ano Mera, there are plenty of paths to the north-western or south-western coasts. The trail network is extensive, so there are many possibilities for the lovers of hiking. The rough beauty with the unadulterated architecture and the dry, lunar landscape will make you feel that you have visited a virgin heaven on earth.
