The prefecture of Chalkidiki in northern Greece, in a close distance to Thessaloniki, is a very popular summer destination, and attracts visitors from many countries, who want to enjoy its amazing beaches, its beautiful landscape and its picturesque seaside villages. 1. Aristotle Park

In the village of Stageira, the birthplace of Aristotle, is located a park, which is dedicated to the great philosopher, his life and his work. This park is an excellent example of a theme park with activities and many interactive games, which help you to learn the culture of the area.


2. Mount Athos

Mount Athos is the third peninsula of Chalkidiki and the most salient monastic centre in Greece. It is governed as an autonomous polity, and only males are permitted to visit the territory. This experience is something unique even for the most sceptical visitors.


3. The Cave and the Anthropological Museum of Petralona

The Cave of Petralona is located on the western side of Chalkidiki, and it is rich in stalactites and stalagmites. In 1960, a human skull of 700,000 years old was discovered there. In this cave, excavations have been made that have brought to light many Palaeolithic tools and bones of animals that are exhibited in the Anthropological Museum of Petralona.


4. The ancient site and the Archaeological Museum of Olynthos

Olynthos used to be the capital of Chalkidiki in the antiquity. The remains of the ancient city include mosaic floors, structures of the hippodamean town planning system and other findings that are displayed in the Archaeological Museum of Olynthos.


5. Mountainous and coast villages

Chalkidiki has mountainous and seaside villages that worth a visit as they are lovely tourist resorts. The most beautiful mountainous village is Afitos Chalkidiki, a traditional village in Kassandra with paved streets, stones houses and small squares. Seaside villages that you will love are Marmaras, Nea Fokea Chalkidiki, Ormos Panagias, Porto Koufo, Nikiti Chalkidikiand Nea Skioni Chalkidiki. All villages are surrounded by amazing beaches and have wonderful promenades and fish restaurants.

Chalkidiki is famous all over the world for its amazing beaches. They are long, sandy, with clear, turquoise waters and organised. On the first peninsula, Chalkidiki,Sithonia, the most popular beaches are Sani, Kallithea, Paleochori and Chanioti Chalkidiki, while on the second peninsula, Kassandra, the beaches are calmer, not so tourist developed and ideal for camping, like Armenistis and Kalamitsi.
