1. Greek Festival

The Greek Festival  is a cultural institution, which hosts major Greek and worldwide famous performing artists in ancient theatre performances in their original scenes. Every summer, from June to September, spectators have the privilege to watch memorable productions of ancient drama in Greek language, with English hyper titles. Thus, also the travellers in Greece have the opportunity to watch the ancient drama and feel the aura of the glorious antiquity, which gave birth to magnificent classic masterpieces that are being admired till today. Since 1955, the Greek festival takes place mainly in the ancient theatre of Epidavros and in Odeon of Herodus Atticus in Athens. During the Greek Festival, you will watch classical tragedies or comedies in the place where they were played for the first time, where their creator had shown them to the public and had participated with them in the contests of ancient Greece.


2. Full Moon Festival

The August Full Moon Festival includes celebrations for the most impressive full moon of the year. Many archaeological places and museums all over Greece stay open at night, giving the visitors the opportunity to experience these mythical places under the moonlight without entrance fee. Classical music and jazz concerts take place in the courtyard of ancient sites and temples, and the atmosphere in these sacred places under the full moon and with the sound of music is imposing.


3. Open-Air Film Festival

The Open-Air Film Festival takes place during summer in various places in Greece and especially in major cities, such as Athens and Thessaloniki. It shows film screenings in parks, pedestrian zones, squares and courtyards of museums without entrance fee. This is a summer memory that no visitor can forget. Plus, the films in Greece are not dubbed; contrariwise, you can watch it in its original language with Greek subtitles.


4. Rockwave Festival

The Rockwave Festival is organised every June in Malakasa, which is located about 35 km north of Athens. The duration of this festival is three days, and it welcomes rock musicians and bands from all over the world. The concerts last all day long, until midnight. The Rockwave Festival has hosted the show of many distinguished artists, like Leonard Cohen, Kylie Minogue, Patti Smith, Sting, Manu Chao, Robbie Williams and Metallica, and it is considered a leading festival in Eastern Europe.


5. Climbing Festival

Kalymnos is characterised by the wild rocky mountains, which are ideal for climbing. This is why the island turned into a climbing destination over the last years and developed important sports tourism that is vivid also during the off season. As a part of a series of measures to develop and promote Kalymnos as international climbing destination, the Municipality of Kalymnos organises every year in October the Climbing Festival, which shows you the spectacular mountainous beauty of the island of Kalymnos and tests your limits.


6. Aurora Festival

The last days of August, you can enjoy in Samothrace an alternative festival with trance, psychedelic and spiritual music. The most impressive thing with that festival is that it takes place in one of the most mystical archaeological sites and centres of ancient Greece, the sanctuary of ancient Gods. The island was a major religious centre for the whole ancient world thanks to the reputation of this sanctuary and the mystical character of the worship of the Great Gods. The temple complex housed once the famous statue of Victory of Samothrace, which is now prominently displayed at the Louvre Museum. Around this place during the festival, visitors can camp and enjoy the unspoilt area, while having fun in this progressive music event.


7. Street Food Festival

Street Food Festival takes place every May in Athens, in the renovated space of an old hack stand in Gkazi, near Keramikos Archealogical site. The gastronomic richness of Athens is a great asset of the city, and Athens Street Food Festival brings all unexplored cuisines, like Arabian, Peruvian, Hawaiian and Argentinean cuisine, all together and gives the visitor the chance to spend a day exploring them and tasting dishes that no one could imagine.


8. River Party

Since 1978, River Party Festival is organised every August in Nestorio in Kastoria, and it is one of the most important camping and music festivals in Europe. In a stunning location near Acheloos River inside the verdant nature of the forest, visitors camp for three days and watch rock concerts of famous Greek and international rock and alternative artists.
