All the essentials you need when travelling abroad

Greece ● 18 August 2017

Travelling abroad, getting familiar with new cultures and exploring a whole new world is a great experience. In order for everything to be completed without any troubles, you should take into consideration some things you should care about before your departure. Read these travel tips and be prepared for unforgettable vacations. Have a nice trip and welcome to Greece!

Medical insurance

Before leaving your country, ask your medical insurance provider if your policy applies outside the country. If you are a citizen of the European Union, inside the Union, you can have medical insurance with the European Insurance Card. Otherwise, it is wise to consider supplemental insurance.

Passport

It is needless to say that your passport is maybe the most necessary thing when travelling abroad. An extra tip is to leave a copy of your passport back home to someone you trust as well as bring a copy of it with you. If your passport gets lost or stolen, you can thus go back into your country and prove your citizenship.

Money

Take into account the monetary conversion, and be very careful with that in order to avoid spending money without noticing it. Before your departure, call you credit bank provider to inform him about your journey. Thus, the bank will not turn your card off for security measures if you do a transaction outside your country. However, don't forget to have always local cash. Many important places, like buses, trains and restaurants in secluded areas, don't accept credit cards. The best way to find local cash is the bank or the ATM. Conversion centres in the airport or around the city are often too expensive.

Electronics

Bring a charger adapter with you. Countries have different size plugs and voltage. It is a pity not to be able to charge your smartphone. Furthermore, check the roaming charges before activating the global capabilities of your phone. Since June 2017, inside the European Union, there is no extra roaming charge for the citizens of EU, but in other countries, these charges can be really high.

Packing

Travelling abroad means many hours of flight or maybe many flights before reaching your destination. Especially in the second case, there is always the possibility that your luggage gets lost. Take in your carry-on bag an extra set of clothes, and you will be totally independent for a couple of days.
