Amazing spots in Athens with the best sunset view

Athens ● 21 August 2017

Stunning sunsets are not only in Santorini. The sun goes down colouring the atmosphere and the waves pink and orange even in large cities. Athens has the asset of a beautiful coastline as well as wonderful hills where you can admire the sun either sinking in the sea or touching with its romantic colours the buildings of the city from above. Sometimes, we only have to lift up the head and feel the magic, which is everywhere.

If you want to stay in Athens Center, you can watch the sunset from the hills around it. Lycabetttus hill is an astonishing spot. Take the cable car to the top of the hill, where there is a café and a restaurant, or go on foot to a high spot. Lycabetttus hill is located in the district of Kolonaki, so it is very easy to find and climb it. From there, you will see not only see the Acropolis becoming pink during the sunset but also the sea and the Saronic Gulf in a charming scenery.

Another hill is Filopappos, which is situated literally near Acropolis. On the hill, are located Pnyx, the place where ancient Athenians voted, as well as a beautiful chapel and lovely hiking paths to walk around. The top of the hill is a popular spot for young people, who sit there drinking beers and having fun. The sunset view is also impressive there.

The coastline of Athens, Athens Riviera, which starts from Piraeus and ends in Cape Sounio, is full of bars, restaurants and cafés, where you can admire an ideal sunset. Athens Riviera is situated on the western side of Athens, so from everywhere you can see amazing pictures. Nice spots are the districts in Alimos Athens and Voula. There, you can find by the sea a large area with cafés and restaurants as well as playgrounds. People have a stroll in the pedestrian by the sea, and the sun sinks in the sea colouring the waves and creating magnificent frames for your photos.

In Cape Sounio, the archaeological site of the ancient temple of Poseidon offers you not only a breathtaking view of Aegean Sea but also the best sunset in the wider area of Attica. The place is somehow or other one of the best spots in Athens, but especially during the sunset, you will be impressed by the beauty of the landscape and the charm of the temple at the edge of Attica peninsula.
