Athens: the best destination for the ultimate bar crawl

Athens ● 29 March 2017

The nightlife of every destination is a fundamental element of the culture and the attitude of its people, and every traveller should experience the different things that each place has to offer in this area. The best way to experience the nightlife is pub-crawl or bar-hopping, and Athens is the best destination if you are a fan of this kind of entertainment.

If you want to drink in multiple bars in one single night, you need a city, where bars and clubs are located in a close distance to each other, and almost every district can offer vivid nightlife. This is exactly the description of Athens. Bars, pubs, clubs and cocktail bars are everywhere in the city. In Athens Center and in every suburb, people have fun by drinking and dancing until the dawn. Monastiraki, Gazi, Thiseio, Kolonaki, Psirri, Panormou, Plaka and the streets around Syntagma Square are only some of the places in Athens Center with plethora of unique, alternative and modern bars with amazing design, world class DJs and variety of music. Furthermore, the best news are that you can enjoy bar-crawl without having to pay a fortune. The drinks are cheap, and the bars are located the one near the other, so you don't have to pay a taxi from one place to another. However, if you want to visit another nightlife district to continue your bar-tour, taxis are affordable in Athens.

Athens by night

In Athens, you don't need structured bar-tours. Of course, if you want an experienced local guide to show you the authentic bars, you can find many organised bar-tours. But the thing is that you are not obliged to pay for bar-hopping in Athens. With our recommendations, you can do that on your own, totally free. Athens is a safe city, and the bars are crowded for many hours every day and not only in weekends. You can drink, dance, flirt, chat and have the time of your life because the Greek people, and especially the Athenians, are open and want to meet new people. Even if you are alone, bar-hopping in Athens will be an unforgettable experience, and you will feel that you are a part of a huge companionship.

You can start your night by drinking a cocktail in Plaka. Vrettos Bar is an excellent bar with many cocktails and liqueurs, and it is ideal for warming up.  Plaka is the best place to eat or drink a cocktail, but if you want more fun, after your first drink, you can walk to Monastiraki, which is only 5 minutes on foot. In Monastiraki and the streets around it, you can drink many drinks and shots. In Avramiotou Street, behind the square, Six D.O.G.S. is an oasis in the noisy centre, while  Faust in Kalamiotou is an atmospheric bar with elegant decoration. Other bars are Drunk Sinatra in Lekka Street, Speak Easy and Transistor in the same area. Then, continue with house music in one of the innumerable bars in Kolonaki. You can walk from Syntagma Square to Kolonaki because it is only 10 minutes on foot. Rock 'n' Roll is a legendary bar in Kolonaki, but you can find there many other bars and clubs to dance, such as T5, Minnie the Moocher and Malconi's. Alternatively, you can walk to Gazi, where there are many bars and clubs, such as Soho and Tiki Bar. Gazi is also  located within walking distance from Monastiraki, but in the opposite direction. Remember that all clubs in this area have free entrance. All districts are located within walking distance, and you can stay there until late, drinking shots, dancing and feeling happy!
