Kaltsounia, Ios

Kaltsounia are sweet pies with cinnamon, honey and mizithra cheese and are also called melitinia. What makes kaltsounia unique is the combination of sweet with savoury, which is something common in the Greek cuisine. With kaltsounia, you taste the amazing pies of the cuisine of the Greek islands and the tasteful mixing of the delicious cheese mizithra with honey.  Ios is known for its honey, and on the island, there is a fine variety of honey, which is called Mayotiko because it is the honey from May flowers and is noted for its aroma and amber colour.

Melachrino, Naxos

Among the signature desserts of Naxos, melachrino is famous all over Greece. It is a kind of karydopita (= walnut cake) made from a small quantity of citron liqueur and served with kaimaki ice cream, which is the ice cream made from mastic resin and sheep's milk. Loukoumades is a very famous sweet of Greece, which can be found everywhere during your vacations in Greece.
