Summer time, the season when the Greek Islands almost sink due to the millions of tourists that come to visit and see the beauty with their own eyes. Like every year, this year couldn’t be any different. Greece made it once again to the top travelling destinations, thanks to its beautiful landscapes with its wonderful beaches, delicious food, but also its unique way of entertainment.

The economic crisis doesn’t make things better, however there are some pretty economical islands, whether you are looking for a family holiday or not!

Behold the most economical Greek Islands for your summer holiday!

Symi is now one of the most popular destinations in the Mediterranean, for those seeking a holiday in style. Only 50 minutes away from the magnificent island of Rhodes, the prices in Symi are vastly different from those in Rhodes since they are 30% lower! Some of the most beautiful beaches of the island are close to the harbour, but if you are looking for the most amazing ones you will need to take a water taxi to access them. The diversity of its coasts is simply amazing. You can find fine sand with a few tiny or large pebbles.

The most popular choices that the tourists make on the island are either the popular and shady beach of Agios Nikolaos or the more sheltered and safe option of Agia Marina. Symi is a pretty cosmopolitan destination, but its prices are low enough for you to enjoy it as much as you can!

Kythira is the legendary home of the goddess Aphrodite that inspired many artists for centuries. There are daily flights from Athens, which make it easier for tourists. The route to each beach is a pleasant experience, seeing what nature has created will leave you astounded. Unique natural beauty environments with lush vegetation, bordering the wonderful seas of the island overlooking three seas, the Myrtoan, the Cretan and the Ionian Sea!
It is the ultimate family destination since it has a pine forest for hiking, golden beaches for swimming and atmospheric Venetian castles, which you can visit.

Whether you choose to go to the organized Kapsali Beach or if you are seeking the absolute isolation of Halkos Beach, the only sure thing is that you will enjoy the crystal-clear waters and you will not have to spend a lot of money on food because with less than €15 per person you can eat like a king.

Serifos is a relatively small island, just a few hours away from Piraeus Port. Compared to Mykonos where the hotel prices range from €100 for a double room, Serifos is much more affordable since here you’ll need to spend around 60 € for a night’s stay. In Serifos, everything moves at its own, idle pace. If you want to relax and lose the sense of time, this is the place for you!
The beaches on this picturesque island are excellent and spotless, with Livadi Beach being the one to steal the heart of every traveller. Have in mind that Psili Ammos Beach was crowned as the “European Beach of the Year” by the newspaper “Sunday Times” in 2003.
The romantic Cycladic architecture and the nightlife of the island, which is reasonably priced, magnetize tourists every summer.

An island-jewel close to Athens. Andros is an ideal tourist destination for families but also suitable for those looking for a close escape from Athens. Andros breaks the classic stereotypes of the Cyclades, being the greenest island of the Aegean since it is filled with waterfalls and greenery, gorges, and slopes full of vegetation. It is an island that has been worshiped by many Europeans, the proof for that is that many of them have bought country houses there. Just two hours from Rafina, with hotel prices similar to the low prices of Serifos during high season, even better in some cases.

It is not considered one of the cosmopolitan islands, but it gathers enough people who like to enjoy tasty food, relaxation, and crystal-clear beaches. There is a small stretch between the port of Gavrio and the lovely Batsi, where there are four stunning sandy beaches, with each one being more tempting than the other.

In Agios Petros Beach people of younger ages gather around, while in Chryssi Ammos (Golden Sand) you might find plenty of celebrities. Finally, Agios Kyprianos is the most suitable place for families.

You can reach the volcanic island of Milos by plane if you don’t want to spend most of your time on the ferry or catamaran. Flights to and from Athens are made twice a day.

The number might seem huge, but this island has at least 72 beaches, some of which you can visit only by boarding small excursion boats. In addition, it has very nice landscapes and especially under the moonlight, everything seems to be magical, thanks to the white colour of its rocks.

The most famous spot on the island is the Sarakiniko Beach, an otherworldly location that resembles the surface of the moon. Milos is one of the Aegean islands that you can choose for your relaxation. Couples favour mostly this island, so you’ll find plenty of romantic things to do around… The prices for the double room are averaged at €65.
