There are some dishes and local products that are typically Greek. In every place in Greece, you can find them and enjoy their amazing taste as well as their energy and their nutritious ingredients in prices you could not even imagine. These are the delicious, yet affordable signature Greek dishes and foods.

1. Souvlaki

Souvlaki is a popular fast food, which consists of small pieces of meat and vegetables, like tomatoes and onions, grilled on a skewer. It is served in a pita wrap with sauce (tzatziki) and French fries. A tavern, which prepares souvlaki (souvlatzidiko), you can find it everywhere in Greece, even in the smallest island or village. Souvlaki costs 2-3€.


2. Greek salad

The Greek salad consists of tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, green peppers, olives, feta cheese, oregano and olive oil. It is a delicious and nutritious salad, which is served in every restaurant or tavern and costs 6-8€.


3. Tzatziki

Tzatziki is a sauce served as dip, appetiser or together with grilled meat and souvlaki. It is made of strained yoghourt, mixed with cucumbers, garlic, salt and olive oil. It is always served cold and as an appetiser, it costs 4-5€ in a Greek tavern. Its taste is unique and different from everything you have tasted.


4. Greek yoghourt

The Greek yoghourt is famous worldwide thanks to its special taste and high quality. It is the perfect breakfast to start your day with energy, and you will find it in every hotel or hostel you will stay in Greece. It includes many vitamins and nutrients and can be combined with honey, fruits, nuts, cinnamon, marmalade or biscuits. You can eat it also as a snack during the day as you can find it in any mini market, everywhere in Greece, and the good news are that it is very cheap (1-2€ per cup).


5. Loukoumades

Loukoumades is the Greek version of doughnuts, a popular delicacy all over the Mediterranean. They are crispy and golden on the outside, fluffy and airy on the inside. This dessert is served hot and combined with honey. It costs 4-7€ and can be found in traditional cafés and food trucks all over Greece.


6. Other local products

In Greece, in addition to the abovementioned dishes, you can also find many fine local products that are used for these dishes and are reasonably cheap in Greece. Olive oil, honey, wine, red saffron and currants are only some of the signature Greek products that can be taken back home and remind you of your unforgettable vacations in Greece.
