Santorini is one of the most popular islands in Greece, with thousands of tourists every year. The villages and towns of the island are every summer full of people, who want to catch the beauty of this amazing island and feel its positives vibes. If you are a type of traveller, who wants to avoid the mass tourism and explore the authentic side of each place, is better for you to visit Santorini in May, June and September than in July and August. However, with some tips and ideas, you can enjoy the unspoiled part of the island, even if you have planned your vacations during the busy period.

From the numerous and stunning beaches of Santorini, choose Vlychada. Vlychada is the most impressive beach in Santorini with extraordinary beauty. It is sandy and nudism-friendly, but it is worth visiting mostly thanks to its lunar landscape that is one of a kind. Vlychada is the most peaceful and uncrowded beach of Santorini due to its unique and wild scenery, which many people don't like, preferring more usual beaches like Perissa Beach (Santorini) and or Kamari Beach (Santorini). However, you will be impressed by the character of this place that has something different to give you.


In Santorini, there are also many spots to watch the famous worldwide sunset. Avoid Oia and Fira Santorini because all tourists go there, and try another place, which is equally beautiful. The lighthouse at Akrotiri (Santorini) is an unexplored place, where you can relax and enjoy a breathtaking view away from mass tourism.


An excursion that most people don't know, because it is a little bit tiring, is hiking the caldera from Fira Santorini to Oia. It is an amazing route with the hiking path passing from astonishing villages, such as Firostefani Santorini and Imerovigli (Santorini), and the best thing is that it gives you the opportunity to enjoy the view of the caldera from secluded spots, where the only company are the gulls and the wind.

 Worth visiting in Santorini are also the hot springs and the volcano in the middle of caldera. Many volcano tours are organised daily, but a nice alternative is to rent a boat or a rib and do the excursion on your own, of course if you have the experience and the license to drive a boat. You will explore the volcano away from the crowds, and you can also visit the small island of Thirassia nearby as well as climb on the volcano. From up there, the view of Santorini from a different perspective is just stunning.
