Island hopping from Crete: where to go next?

Crete ● Gavdos ● Karpathos ● Kasos ● Santorini ● 14 March 2018

Island hopping from Crete is an excellent opportunity to explore more Greek islands after your vacation on this astonishing place. Although Crete is a large island and usually most travellers spend their whole vacation there in order to see as many beaches, villages and sites possible, there is always the option to continue with Greek Island Hopping from Crete, for example if you don't visit it for the first time and you want to discover other places too. Crete doesn't belong in an island complex, so it has no other islands in a close distance to it. Of course, there is ferry connection from Crete to all the islands of the Cyclades and Dodecanese, but the distance is long. The following four islands, one of them in the Cyclades and two of them in the Dodecanese, have the shortest distance from Crete. Book your accommodation and get ready for summer 2018!

Santorini

Santorini is the closest Cycladic island to Crete, and you can visit it with Hostelbay Island Pass (learn here more) on a budget from Heraklion, the largest port of Crete. Words are not enough to describe the beauty of this volcanic island with the whitewashed houses at the edge of the cliff, the romantic sunsets, the elegant atmosphere and the imposing beaches. Santorini is a legend with a unique atmosphere, which you will adore.

Kasos

Kasos is the small island of the Dodecanese, which is located between Crete and Karpathos. It is an off-the-beaten-path destination, an authentic island with a cozy friendly Chora and one of the best beaches in Greece, Marmara. Golden sand, turquoise waters and the feeling that you have just discovered a virgin paradise, this is Marmara and Kasos.

Karpathos

Karpathos is a charming island, ideal for exploration and discovery. Beautiful beaches, untouched mountainous villages and friendly trekking routes make this island so interesting. A trip to Karpathos would not be complete without a visit to the mountainous village of Olympos, where time appears to have stood still for centuries. Unique architecture, a significant folklore museum and more than 70 windmills to the road leading to the village are only some of the things you will admire in Olympos.

Karpathos

Gavdos

Gavdos is a tiny island that is located to the south of Chania in Crete and is the southernmost point of Europe in the Libyan Sea. It is an exotic island, which makes you believe that you are swimming in the sea of Africa. Just a few taverns, rooms to let and free camping, total blue and a chair as a trademark on the top of the hill constitute the landscape of Gavdos. It offers you the ultimate feeling of freedom, a lost paradise to relax and forget everything that worries you, a heaven so close to Crete.
