Donousa ● Irakleia ● Kea ● Kimolos ● Kythnos ● Schinoussa ● Sikinos ● 28 December 2017

If you have just planned your vacation in Cyclades and booked your accommodation, you may be ready to explore an alternative option for next summer. Cyclades is an island complex that is ideal for island hopping thanks to the numerous beautiful islands and the short distance between them. Popular Greek islands, such as Mykonos, Santorini, Naxos and Paros, can be combined in only one visit in Greece thanks to the Greek Island Pass, which gives you the opportunity to travel from one island to another with great flexibility and at the price of only one ferry ticket. However, you may have visited these islands or want something totally different. If you want to live an off-the-beaten-track experience in Greece, Cyclades are perfect for an island hopping away from mass tourism. Have a look at these suggested routes and combinations between unspoiled islands that will give you the feeling of privacy and the connection with nature. Of course, you can visit more islands and also combine a popular with an untouched island. The routes in this article are only recommendations for they are located very close to each other and share some common characteristics that offer you the authentic experience you are looking for.

Kythnos is the Cycladic island that is situated in the shortest distance from Athens. In spite of this fact, it has remained unspoiled by mass tourism. Its Chora is typically Cycladic with whitewashed houses at the top of the hill, but the most impressive thing with Kythnos is Kolona, one of the best beaches in Aegean Sea, which is still unorganised and virgin.

Kea is located near Kythnos. In the 90's, it was quite popular thanks to its short distance from Athens, but today it is a calm island with lovely beaches, delicious cuisine and an elegant aura from past decades.

Irakleia, Donousa and Schinoussa are part of a sub-complex of Cyclades, the Small Cyclades. This island complex inside Cyclades has taken its name from the size of its islands. They are tiny, untouched and virgin. Only one hour by boat from Naxos, they offer their visitors moments of true relaxation and hospitality. There is no road network, people are fishermen, and on these islands you can find only some taverns and rooms to let. However, the landscape will compensate the fans of Cyclades. Wild, dry nature, sandy secluded beaches, where you can go only on foot or by boat, and the clearest waters you can find in the Aegean Sea. There, you will spend some days like being in a heaven on earth, swimming in the turquoise sea and eating fresh fish.

On the south-western side of Cyclades, two small islands are the alternative to the nearby popular Milos and Folegandros. Sikinos and Kimolos are forgotten places because all travellers visit the other popular islands, but they are two of the best-kept secrets in Cyclades. Sikinos is a great destination for the lovers of hiking due to its beautiful paths, while Kimolos is distinguished by a large and well-preserved Chora with paved streets and Prassa, an astonishing beach with white sand and emerald waters.
