Precious food products you can find cheap in Greece

Greece ● 23 March 2017

Greece is famous worldwide for its culinary culture and its cuisine. The Mediterranean cuisine is based on many products, like olive oil, vegetables and fruits that you can find reasonably cheap in Greece. Furthermore, the good news are that you can take many Greek local products back home, having the opportunity to enjoy them in your country without having to pay a fortune to buy them there.

1. Olive oil

The olive oil is produced by pressing whole olives. The health benefits of the Greek cuisine are associated with olive oil since it is rich in polyphenol and eleocanthal that are considered to improve cardiovascular health. Olive oil is also used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and soaps because it contains Vitamin B, which helps to skin resurfacing.

2. Honey

The Greek honey is popular thanks to its quality and great taste. It is considered to be some of the finest honey in the world due to unlimited sun, the biodiversity in the Greek countryside and the rich variety of the flora. The honey that comes from thyme is the best honey in Greece, and you can find it everywhere in Greece at reasonable prices that will impress you.

3. Wine

Greece is one of the oldest wine-producing countries in the world since the Greek wine had high prestige in antiquity. There are many wine varieties depending on the grapes and the wine-making area, and in Greece, you can buy high quality wine from local wineries and have an amazing experience by visiting a vineyard and tasting a glass of its homemade wine.

4. Red Greek Saffron

The Greek Saffron or krokos Kozani's belongs to the highest quality of saffron in the world. It is well known for its anticancer, aphrodisiac and memory enhancing properties, and it has also antidepressant, antioxidant and anti-ageing action. The Greek saffron gives to dishes a delicate aroma and a spicy flavour, being perfectly combined with rice, pasta, meat and sweets.

5. Currants

The Greek black raisins from Korinthos constitute an excellent source of trace elements, which make them an ideal functional food beyond basic nutrition. There are three different varieties of grapes you can find in Greece. Currants are dried black and seedless grapes, raisins are dried white grapes and sultanas are dried white grapes from seedless cultivars. The most impressive thing, however, is that currants you can find only in Greece and especially in Korinthos.
