Santorini, the volcanic island of Greece and one of the most popular destinations worldwide... Words are poor to describe the beauty of the caldera, of the white chapels and houses on the black cliff and the sunset colouring them pink and orange. The pictures of Santorini are a trademark of Greece, of the Greek islands and their unique landscape, but you can understand this beauty only if you have seen it with your own eyes. So, if your summer vacations this year are in Santorini, you are lucky. Read this guide, and you can have a good first impression of what to wait on this stunning island.

Santorini owes its popularity and fame mainly to its amazingly beautiful villages, which are located on the slopes of caldera. These villages offer their visitors feelings that cannot be described by words since the landscape is something that nobody has ever seen before. Spend your day and night there because it is really hard to have enough and get bored with the wonderful pictures you will see, so try to spend as many hours you can, admire the view and take a lot of pictures. Fira Santorini, Oia and Imerovigli (Santorini) are the best choices. Fira are crowded and the centre of Santorini's nightlife, while Imerovigli (Santorini) is a quiet village to spend relaxing moments at the highest point of caldera. Oia is the ideal place to feel the mystery of caldera, listen to classic music in one of the wonderful cafés and bars, eat in luxury restaurants and of course enjoy the sunset with your other half.

You may have heard that the beaches in Santorini are not as beautiful as on the other Greek islands, but this is not true. Santorini, like all places in Greece, has crystal waters and astonishing landscape. The natural setting and the dark volcano sand is something unique. What the beaches lack in typical sandy splendour and turquoise waters, they make up with their view, the clear waters and the impressive cliffs around them. Beaches like Vlyhada, Red Beach (Santorini) and Perissa Beach (Santorini) are one of a kind and will impress you with their extraordinary beauty. So, don't stay the whole day in caldera and don't listen to them, who say that the beaches in Santorini are not worth visiting. Have a look, swim and sunbathe there and you won't regret it.

Santorini is also known for its food and wine. A lot of cooking and wine tasting excursions are being organised and include the visit of wineries, where you can learn how the wine is being prepared, and then, cook with a local chef and eat what you have made. Other excursions you can do include trekking, hiking in the caldera or horse riding in fascinating routes.

If you are a fan of the Greek history and antiquity, don't forget to visit the Akrotiri Minoan Site (Santorini). It is located on the southern side of the island, in a close distance to the famous Red Beach (Santorini). It is visited by thousands of visitors each year thanks to the amazing findings of an ancient fully-working and developed settlement, which was constructed around 4,500 B.C. The town of Akrotiri (Santorini) was covered by ashes and lava due to the enormous volcanic eruption around 1,650 B.C., and thus, it was preserved intact through time.
