Seafood in Greece: these are the delicious and healthy dishes

Seafood in Greece is a special culinary experience, and you can live it everywhere because Greece is a country surrounded by sea and has a long tradition in fishing and cooking the products of the sea. In every place, you can find quality traditional taverns to try the delicious, healthy and affordable dishes of the Greek cuisine that include the treasures of the sea, while in cosmopolitan places, such as Athens, Mykonos and Santorini, you can also find modern internationally awarded restaurants that have in their menu creative dishes with fish and seafood that will impress you.

On the Greek islands, you should definitely try fresh fish. Fish is cooked in the Greek cuisine either grilled, when it is a big fish, like sea bass, dorado, mackerel and haddock, or fried, when the fish is small, like red mullet. Some fishes, like sardine and sprat, are not cooked but rather marinated, being a perfect kickshaw combined with ouzo and the early version of sushi in Greece. The big fishes, which are grilled, are served with a delicious sauce of olive oil mixed with lemon, which gives them an extraordinary taste.

In addition to fish, a top gastronomic experience is to eat the Greek seafood. A common dish is octopus, which is cooked grilled or boiled in wine and vinegar.

Very popular is also the squid, which you can eat grilled or fried. The gourmet version of the squid is stuffed with rice, onions and nuts.

A dish, which is considered to be very aphrodisiac, is the oysters and generally the shellfishes. They are served with their shell, and their inside is boiled in wine or a sauce with garlic and lemon. They are an amazing kickshaw with a taste literally coming from the sea.

Very tasteful are also the shrimps. They are grilled, but you can eat them in a special dish with tomato sauce and feta cheese, which combines various ingredients to create something unique.

If you are a fan of the Italian cuisine, seafood in Greece can also be combined with pasta and risotto. Shrimps, oysters and lobster create a perfect dish with spaghetti in the Greek version of spaghetti al vongole.

For the lovers of the gourmet cuisine, the sea urchin is the ultimate gastronomic experience. The inside of the sea urchin is served in a shot glass making you feel like drinking the sea and its waves.
