Small Cyclades: a complex of untouched paradises

Donousa ● Irakleia ● Koufonisi ● Schinoussa ● Small Cyclades ● 25 July 2017

Small Cyclades is a complex of islands near Naxos that belong to Cyclades, but at the same time, they constitute a special complex of undiscovered, authentic islands away from mass tourism and perfect for those seeking something different, calmness and extreme beauty. Wild landscape, great hospitality, unspoiled scenery and azure waters make these tiny islands a heaven on earth where you can explore something really unique, an undiscovered part of the Greek islands. The structures are undeveloped in Small Cyclades, so be prepared to walk, since there are no taxis, no car rentals and roads are minimal. However, by walking, you may explore the fantastic coastline of these islands and feel like an explorer in a yet undiscovered place. You can go to Small Cyclades by boat from Piraeus Port or from Naxos by the local boat Skopelitis.

Koufonisi

Koufonisi is the rising star of Small Cyclades and is considered to be the Caribbean of Greece. Turquoise waters, amazing coastline with imposing caves, some of the best beaches in Cyclades and a Chora that is constantly developing make Koufonisi a safe choice for those, who want something in the middle. Authenticity and cosmopolitanism, calmness and fun, unorganised beaches, which have some taverns and beach bars. Some people call Koufonisi the Mykonos of Small Cyclades due to the bars and the galleries located in Chora as well as the wonderful beaches of the island, but the truth is that Koufonisi is still an off-the-beaten-track island in Cyclades that can provide you with some truly relaxing moments.

Donousa

In Donousa, you will find total privacy and relaxation. The most beautiful area of Donousa is the southern side of the island, with long exotic sandy bays, such as Kedros and Livadi. The only settlement of the island is the port, an authentic small Chora with some taverns and café-bars to spend calm days and nights discussing with the locals and finding your inner peace.

Schinoussa

Schinoussa has the same style with the other Small Cyclades. Secluded long bays with turquoise waters and golden sand, small settlements, wild landscape and authentic locals. Away from mass tourism, you can enjoy there the beauty of nature and feel that you own the island. Every day, you can eat fresh fish because the locals are still fishermen and fish to provide the few taverns of Schinoussa with fresh seafood.

Irakleia

Irakleia is the less inhabited destination among the Small Cyclades. With only a few houses around the port, Irakleia impresses its visitors with its virgin landscape and its lonely beaches. Livadi is the best beach of the island, an imposing cove with the clearest waters you can find in Aegean Sea.
