The best Greek islands for beach hopping

Lefkada ● Milos ● Mykonos ● Serifos ● Zakynthos ● 14 March 2018

Beach hopping is a fascinating way to spend your summer vacation. If you love swimming and sunbathing the whole day, each day on various beaches, then beach hopping is your thing. Greece is renowned for its beaches, but which islands have top beaches gathered all together so that you can easily visit them? The following islands have two characteristics. On the one hand, they have numerous gorgeous beaches to choose, so that you can spend your day on 2, 3 or even 4 beaches according to your preferences. On the other side, the distances between the beaches are not very large in order to be easy to do beach hopping. For example, we don't mention in this article Crete, which is famous all over the world for its beaches, but the distances are too long that you can't visit more than one renowned beach during the day.

The first three islands (Serifos, Mykonos and Milos) are located in the Cyclades, so you can combine beach hopping with island hopping visiting the one island after another. The other two islands (Zakynthos and Lefkada) are also situated in a short distance to each other in the Ionian Sea, and you can do island hopping there too. So, what are you waiting for? Book your accommodation and ferry tickets and get ready!

Serifos

Serifos is a typical Cycladic island with sandy beaches, turquoise waters and wild landscape. Most beaches, such a Psili Ammos, are organised, other are partly organised, such as Sykamia and Ganema, with a tavern at the beach front, where you can taste traditional Greek cuisine, and other are not organised, but they offer privacy and the ultimate feeling of authenticity and beauty, such as Kalo Ampeli and Agios Sostis, which is famous for the small white chapel at the edge of the beach.

Mykonos

Mykonos has numerous stunning beaches with emerald waters and golden sand. Super Paradise, Paradise, Elia, Lia, Agios Sostis, Ornos, Ftelia, Kalafatis, Psarou, Panormos, Agios Ioannis are only some of the impressive beaches that in addition to their amazing landscape offer touristic facilities that remind of luxury resorts. Beach bars, hotels by the sea, beach clubs with world class DJ's and partying all day, elegant restaurants with various cuisines, such as Italian, Japanese, French and Peruvian, create a fascinating atmosphere, and you literally don't know where to go next.

Milos

Milos is the ultimate island for beach hopping. With more than 70 beaches, beach hopping in Milos is the only solution if you want to visit the most beautiful beaches in less than a month. The beaches of Milos are colourful (Firiplaka and Firopotamos), with volcanic lunar landscape and imposing rocks (Sarakiniko, Kleftiko, Papafragkas), white sand and crystal waters (Achivadolimni, Agia Kiriaki, Plathiena, Alogomandra, Gerontas), or are secluded and exotic (Tsigkrado).

It has also other equally beautiful long sandy beaches with turquoise waters, such as Laganas, Kalamaki, Agios Nikolaos, Tsilivi, Limni Keriou and Marathonisi. All of them are organised with various touristic facilities, such as sunbeds, umbrellas, cafés, restaurants, shop and water sports. Plus, you may see a caretta-caretta, the protected species of sea turtle swimming around!

Lefkada

Lefkada has numerous astonishing beaches with lush greenery, emerald waters and white sand. Some of them are organised, such as Kathisma, Agiofili and Nidri, but the most impressive and worth visiting beaches are the secluded bays of Egremni, Kathisma, Mylos and Porto Katsiki wth remarkably blue waters and impressive cliffs that make them look like a painting.
