The best off-the-beaten-path islands in Cyclades

Anafi ● Cyclades ● Kimolos ● Kythnos ● Serifos ● Sikinos ● 02 July 2017

Cyclades have popular islands, like Mykonos and Santorini, but also many small, untouched islands off-the-beaten-path where you can have authentic vacations, away from the crowds and at affordable prices. The hospitality of the locals, the calmness and the unexplored landscape will make you truly relax and find the peace you are searching for.

Kythnos

Kythnos is one of the lesser known islands of Cyclades in a very close distance to Athens, so you can visit it even for a couple of days during your city break in Athens. Although it is located 2 hours from the capital, Kythnos remains an unspoiled island. Chora is typically Cycladic, the food in the traditional taverns is delicious and cheap, the people are hospitable and ready to please you, and you can find there the astonishing beaches of the Aegean Sea. Kolona is one of the best beaches in Cyclades, an amazing natural phenomenon, which has sand and crystal blue waters from both sides.

Serifos

Serifos is also very close to Athens and an island with astonishing beaches and a typical Cycladic Chora. Chora of Serifos is located on the top cliff, from where you can have a breathtaking view of the Aegean Sea and the nearby islands. The central square is the best spot of Chora, where you can relax, eat, drink and buy local products from the shop in the wonderful streets around the square.

Anafi

In a close distance to Santorini, you can find Anafi, a small rocky island that belongs to the complex of Cyclades. With a typical Cycladic Chora and crystal waters, Anafi is also an ideal destination for romantics that want to enjoy secluded beaches, cheap fresh fish and experiences away from mass tourism.

Sikinos

Sikinos is a small, rocky Cycladic island, in a close distance to Folegandros. It is the perfect destination for hiking thanks to its cliffs and mountains that will offer you a magnificent view of the Aegean Sea and the complex of Cyclades. The Chora is typically Cycladic, with small white houses, and the turquoise waters of the sea are calling you to swim in an experience of true calmness.

Kimolos

Kimolos was basically, million years ago, part of Milos, and thus, it has the same impressive landscape as well as volcanic and mineral earth, which gives Kimolos its natural product, the chalk that is also the name of the island (Kimolos comes etymologically from the word kimolia, which means chalk). Imposing rocks, turquoise waters and a colourful scenery together with a white, lovely capital is what Kimolos has to offer to its visitors. An off-the-beaten-path paradise, an authentic oasis that is a hidden gem, predestined to attract people, who search the true beauty of a blessed place.
