In Athens, the traveller has numerous things to do, in many districts of the city. Athens, the capital of Greece, is a huge city, but the main attractions are located in a small area of the Old Town and Athens Center. In this article, you will be informed about the main streets in Athens, where you can take the best Athens has to offer in the area of food, shopping, culture and nightlife. Walking around Athens was never that easy!


1. Kydathinaion

Kydathinaion is the main street of Plaka and its most interesting and beautiful part. Neoclassical colourful houses, bougainvilleas, traditional shops with local products and taverns with seafood, meat, mezedes and ouzo create an amazing scenery for every traveller, who wants to walk in the Old Town of Athens, under the hill of Acropolis.


2. Apostolou Paulou-Dionysiou Areopagitou

The most impressive street in Athens is the pedestrian of Dionysiou Areopagitou, which begins from the Acropolis Museum and ends in Thiseio, where the street is renamed to Apostolou Paulou. This is by far the best walk in Athens. You are literally walk with a magnificent view of the Acropolis in a wonderful pedestrian with flowers, trees and luxury, neoclassical houses. Then, you reach Thiseio, and the street is full of bars, taverns and cafés. In this street, is also located the entrance to Pnyx, the place where democracy is born, and the Athenians voted. Nearby, you can see the cell of Socrates, where the great philosopher was imprisoned.


3. Ermou

Ermou, near Syntagma Square, is the main shopping street of Athens. It is a pedestrian zone with shoe and clothing shops, where you can find many offers and deals. Here, there are brands, like H&M, Zara, Accessories, and in general products at reasonable prices.


4. Voukourestiou

Voukourestiou is also a pedestrian zone for shopping, but in this street, are located the expensive boutiques and brands. Hermes, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Tods and Prada are only some of the luxury stores you will find in Voukourestiou. Furthermore, Attica, the biggest shopping mall with numerous brands, is also located in Voukourestiou, and in its huge, neoclassical building you can drink coffee or eat a snack in City Link, a beautiful arcade with elegant cafés and bars. 


5. Panepistimiou

Panepistimiou is the road that connects Syntagma Square with Omonoia Square. With its large sidewalks, you can walk with the view of Lycabetttus hill. The main sightseeing in Panepistimiou Street is the complex of the impressive, historical buildings that used to be the University, the Library and the Academy of Athens.


6. Kolokotroni

Kolokotroni, that connects Syntagma Square with Monastiraki, is the street, where you can experience the vivid nightlife of Athens. Full of bars and loud music, it is the perfect spot for Saturday night. You can also find many bars in the streets around Kolokotroni, such as Lekka, Thisseos and Avramiotou.


7. Adrianou

Adrianou is a small pedestrian zone that begins from Monastiraki and ends in Thiseio. It is located near Ancient Agora (Athens), and it offers a magnificent view of the Temple of Hephaestus. Small, neoclassical, colourful houses and traditional restaurants make this place ideal to relax, eat and drink coffee.
