The best things to see in Paxoi island

Ionian islands ● Paxoi ● 04 May 2018

Paxoi is a small island in the Ionian Sea near Corfu, which impresses with its lush greenery and emerald waters. Being the hidden gem of the Ionian Islands, this little island offers the visitor moments of peace and relaxation, especially during the middle season as there is always the possibility that in August it gets crowded. Discover it!

The first thing you see in Paxoi is of course its port, and it is enough to charm you with its traditional Italian-style architecture. Gaios, the main harbour with ferry connections to Corfu and Igoumenitsa, is the biggest village of the island with many touristic facilities, restaurants, accommodation options, cafés and bars. There, you can also visit the Folklore Museum to learn about the history and customs of the Ionian islands.

Don't miss the Agios Nikolaos islet, which stands in front of the port and has a Venetian fortress of the 15th century and breathtaking view.

Paxoi has two other small villages that are definitely worth visiting, Lakka and Logos. Lakka is located on the northern side of the island and has a lovely small harbour for fishing boats and yachts. From there, you can take the boat for a day excursion to the nearby sea cave of Ipapanti. Logos is renowned for its traditional fish taverns at the beachfront and is the counterweight to busy Gaios. There, you can enjoy the spiritual vibes of the village as it is an artistic destination. Every year at the end of August, takes place the International Music Festival with classical music of famous Greek and foreign artists.

From Logos, you can take the boat for an excursion to the coves around it or the picturesque town of Parga in mainland Greece.

Other excursions you can make from Paxoi include the tiny island of Antipaxoi in a very short distance to it. Antipaxoi is well known for its verdant nature as well as the stunning beaches, such as Voutoumi and Mesovrika. But keep in mind that Antipaxoi has no tourist facilities.

In addition to the beaches of Antipaxoi, there are also many astonishing beaches in Paxoi. They are actually small sandy coves with turquoise waters, surrounded by various trees. Some of them are party organised with a few sunbeds and umbrellas, such as Monidenrdi and Harami, but most of Paxoi beaches are secluded, offering you privacy and contact with nature. Don't miss swimming in Levrehio, Mogonisi and Plakes that captivate the visitor with their scenic landscape.
