The Hip Suburbs of Athens

Athens has so much more than just the city centre. Discover the beauty and the vibe of the cosmopolitan suburbs and enjoy the less known sides of this ancient city.

Glyfada

Glyfada is known for the big expats community that lives in the area enjoying the sunshine, the cosmopolitan aura and the hi end restaurants, boutiques and up scale lifestyle. Glyfada has some nice bars on the beach that you can visit all year round, a nice marina where you can go for walking of cycling, plenty of cafes to enjoy a good coffee or a snack and eclectic bars and cafes or restaurants with international cuisine where you can taste the top dishes of the world.
Glyfada has also a good access to the airport of Athens and you can get there daily and 24/7 with an express bus.
Glyfada is about half an hour away from downtown Athens.

Vouliagmeni

Vouliagmeni is the ultimate spot of the Athens Riviera where rich and famous live in nice big houses overlooking the gorgeous beach and the marina where you can go for water ski, sailing, walking and of course swimming 365 days of the year. The area is very beautiful with a laid back lifestyle and top hotels just around the corner. Astir private beach is probably the most beautiful beach of Athens with nice beach bars and sun beds on the beach serving high quality snacks and delicious cocktails all day.
In order to get on the beach you will need to pay an entrance fee, it is the most expensive entrance fee in Greece but for many it is worth it.
Don't miss to visit the Vouliagmeni Lake that is a natural spa lake just across the street from the beach. It is wonderful, very relaxing and with a special surrounding. Your skin will look much better after a swim on this lake, trust us we have tried it! The water of the lake is also good if you suffer with problems in your bones.

Kifisia

Kifisia is the north queen of the suburbs and it is the posh suburb where some of the richest families of the countries choose to live. It seems remote but it is not very far from the centre of Athens via Kifisias Avenue. The main characteristics of Kifissia are the nice mansions, the green parks, the top restaurants serving traditional and international cuisine, the best boutiques in Athens for shopping and some sophisticated bars to go out and enjoy the night with friends.
You can get to Kifissia with the train, bus or with your car.
It is the best place to be in the summer as the temperature is lower than the south suburbs or the central ones.
If you are in Kifissia you can head to the beaches of the other side of Athens such as Nea Makri and Schoinias beach which are ideal for water sports, swimming, and parting on the beach during the day!
