The Phenomenon of the Healthy Traveler

Have you ever imagined that traveling could really save your life? Actually science can prove that...!

According to the research made by Greek scientists, published in the scientific journal “CMAJ”, traveling can keep us alive and going on.

The scientists who conducted this research, observed something really peculiar…During the month of September the rate of fatality decreases, it is 16% lower than the average annual rate.

In order to contact the research, the team of Dr. Matthaeus Falagas, principal of the Alpha Institution of Biomedicine Sciences in Athens, examined the official epidemiological data of the last 57 years in Greece, Cyprus, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

While analyzing the data, the scientific team found out that in all the above countries, the fatal amount reached its lowest level during September. In North America and Sweden, the equivalent month was August and in Japan July.

A possible explanation, according to the paper of the scientists, is that during September, temperature does not reach extreme levels of cold or heat, which increases the danger of death. But this is not the complete answer to the “enigma”.

So why most people do not leave this world during Septembers?

Happy couple

The answer lies to the fact that in most Mediterranean countries summer traveling-holidays had preceded September. This plays a crucial role in people’s survival. The high generation of Vitamin D in human body, due to the intense sunlight during summer months has a positive effect in the prevention of cardiopathy, growth, autoimmune diseases and infections.

Last but not least, relaxation, mental euphoria and the expel of pressure and anxiety which our daily routine can cause, are important factors which can benefit us and lead on to an improved health (physical and mental) and of course in great shape.

Imagine that only after one or two days of vacationing, 89% of most people develop an important decrease of their anxiety levels. After all, except the health advantages we can get out of traveling, we should not forget other benefits we can acquire while traveling, such as develop stronger bonding in our human relationships (especially for couples), become smarter, better in finding solutions, more creative and of course happier than even before.
