Greece is famous for its wonderful beaches with their crystal waters and the amazing landscape. Every year, popular travel guides, newspapers, magazines and sites, like Trip Advisor, The New York Times and the Guardian, publish lists with the best beaches in the world. These Greek beaches are included steadily in these lists and are considered the best in Greece and among the greatest in the world.

1. Shipwreck, Zakynthos, Ionian Islands

The Shipwreck Beach is an exposed sandy cove, which owes its name to the wreck of a ship called Panagiotis that is believed to have been a smugglers ship. The area of the beach attracts thousands of tourists yearly, but you can access it only by boat. This popular site is also a famous base jumping location.

2. Myrtos, Kefalonia, Ionian Islands

Myrtos is one of the most famous beaches in the Mediterranean Sea. It is a long coast with white sand and turquoise waters surrounded by steep cliffs, near Fiskardo, the traditional village of Kefalonia.

3. Balos Lagoon, Chania, Crete

Located on the north western side of Crete, Balos amazes its visitors at first sight. White sand, turquoise waters and the feeling that you are swimming in a lagoon make this place an internationally awarded beach.

4. Sarakiniko, Milos, Cyclades

The most photographed landscape of Cyclades, Sarakiniko is a moonscape that impresses with its white cliffs, the turquoise waters and the waves hitting the volcanic rocks.

5. Simos, Elafonisos, Peloponnese

Simos in Elafonisos is the most popular beach in mainland southern Greece. Two beaches with the clear waters of the Aegean Sea create a landscape that every summer attracts thousands of visitors, who want to admire the spectacular beauty of nature

6. Super Paradise (Mykonos), Mykonos, Cyclades

Super Paradise Beach (Mykonos) is one of the most gay-friendly places in Greece and also a beach with extraordinary beauty. It is considered a party beach, with two beach bars and restaurants for having fun until night.

7. Elafonissi, Chania, Crete

Elafonissi is an astonishing beach with white and pink (literally!) sand and exotic waters. Cedar trees reach the coastline creating a beautiful scenery.

8. Mylopotamos, Pilion Volos, Thessaly

Mylopotamos is a beach of exotic beauty, with soft sand, white pebbles and pine trees. It is located near the beautiful village of Tsagkarada Pilion.

9. Falassarna, Chania, Crete

Falassarna is a long sandy beach, family-friendly thanks to its shallow waters, soft sand and touristic facilities that include umbrellas and sunbeds. Near the beach, you can visit the archaeological site of Ancient Falassarna.

10. Egremni, Lefkada, Ionian Islands

With remarkably blue and clear waters, surrounded by white, impressive cliffs, this long sandy beach is considered the best in the island of Lefkada.

11. Preveli, Rethymnon, Crete

Preveli is a place of stunning natural beauty. A river flows into the sea, passes from many palm trees and forms a lake near the sand. The beach is unorganised and unspoiled, but there are water sports facilities to explore the lake and the river.
