These two bars in Athens are included in the world's 50 best bars!

Athens ● 16 June 2017

The nightlife of Athens is one of the biggest assets of the city, with numerous bars in various districts of Athens, which is the ultimate destination for bar-hopping thanks to the low prices of the drinks, the close distance of the bars to each other and the different styles of music and atmosphere you can find in every bar and district. Lately, Athens Center has become very fashionable, and the bar scene here is booming and innovative. Legendary bartenders create unique cocktails, and thousands of visitors rediscover the Greek capital, where all nightspots are within walking distance. But the most impressive thing is that two bars of Athens Center, in the famous area between Syntagma Square and Monastiraki, around Agia Eirini Square, are included in the list of the World's 50 Best bars!

Monastiraki

The first is the playful, hipster-friendly Clumsies., in Praxitelous Street, just 5 minutes walk from Monastiraki. This all-day hangout offers a little bit of everything you like. Rich coffee, low-alcohol aperitifs and sophisticated, perfectly executed cocktails made using modern techniques, such as fermentation and centrifugal infusion. It has an elegant interior and a lovely courtyard, where you can also eat brunch from famous chefs at Sunday evening.

The second is Baba Au Rum. In an alley in the buzzing down town area, this snug spot reignited the Athens cocktail scene when it opened in 2009. The hospitality of the stuff in Baba Au Rum is legendary, and you will feel like home. The bar's top recommendation is the eponymous cocktail, which is a complex but at the same time balanced umami daiquiri with vanilla, sweet sherry, oak, lime and botanicals.

But Athens is not only these two bars. After you have drunk a cocktail there, you can experience bar-hopping since the area is full of elegant bars that have something different to offer. Gin Joint is a tiny bar, also at the heart of the action, and has at least 130 brands of gin available. If you are following the vermouth trend, Odori Vermuteria di Atene is dedicated to the stuff.

As a famous bartender in Athens said, Athens is the essential destination for holiday travellers, business people, artists and drinkers. Because there is an inherent need in the Greek soul for socialising, enjoying a well-prepared, affordable meal alfresco and then a chat over drinks until late...
