Things to do in Santorini

Cyclades ● Santorini ● 27 February 2017

Santorini, this wonderful Cycladic island, has many captivating sides, which can impress every visitor. The things you can do in Santorini are numerous and will show you the real beauty that you will never forget. Pack your suitcase, check our super ferry deals and prepare yourself for unforgettable vacations!

1. Enjoy the spectacular view of the caldera

Santorini was once a volcano, and starring at the view of the caldera that the eruption created 3,500 years ago, is the best thing you can do on this island. The breathtaking view, which you can enjoy in Oia, Imerovigli (Santorini) and Fira Santorini will magnetise with its energy everyone, who has the luck to be there. The sunset at these points, when the pink reflection of the sun makes the scenery and the white village a romantic painting, is just an amazing moment to spend with your other half.

2. Swim in the crystal waters

Santorini like all places in Greece has crystal waters and astonishing landscape. The natural setting and the dark volcano sand is beautiful. What the beaches lack in typical sandy splendour, they make up with their view, the clear waters and the impressive cliffs around them. Beaches like Vlyhada, Red Beach and Perissa are one of a kind and will impress you with their extraordinary beauty.

3. Make cooking and wine tasting excursions

Santorini is also known for its food and wine. A lot of cooking and wine tasting excursions are being organised and include the visit of wineries, where you can learn how the wine is being prepared, and then, cook with a local chef and eat what you have made.

4. Visit significant archaeological sites and museums

In Fira Santorini, there are two main museums, the Prehistoric Thera Museum, which presents the most significant murals found at the prehistoric settlement of Akrotiri Santorini, and the Archaeological Museum of Thera, which hosts statues and discoveries from the Archaic, Geometric, Hellenistic and Roman Periods. The archaeological site at Akrotiri Santorini is definitely worth a visit.

5. Trekking and horse riding

The trail between Oia and Fira Santorini offers a spectacular walk along the edge of the caldera. The route from Kamari Santorini to Perissa Santorini passes from the Ancient Thera Archaeological Site and combines trekking with a cultural walk. Both routes are of medium difficulty and last 4 hours. The horse riding adventures, which are organised all over the island, also make fascinating routes.
