Tips on what not to take with you if you want to travel light

Aegean islands ● Crete ● Cyclades ● Ionian islands ● 29 June 2017

The full season of summer has arrived, and you are getting ready to pack. You must be wondering what not to take with you if you want to travel light. This is the vital moment when you ought to decide what to bring along. You don’t want to leave out your favourite clothes, but you know that it is extremely hard to squeeze your whole closet into such a tiny space. Are you afraid that your things will prevent your luggage from zipping fully closed? You don’t have to worry about a thing…

We’ve got 4 simple tips for you, regarding what NOT to pack for this year’s trip! The lighter you travel, the easier and smarter your journey will be.

1. Heavy Books & Travel Guides

Well, thank God for technology. An e-book or a smartphone device can be used for reading. You could carry 1-2 books with you if you are not that tech-savvy, but also bear in mind that there are bookstores and other places where you can find books and magazines even in the remotest islands of Greece. For the same reason, you should leave your travel guides at home, since you can find anything you ask for online! If you are up for an adventure, try exploring various places without travel guides, and see what you can discover on your way there…

2. Leave those hefty shoes in your footwear closet

What you practically need for your summer vacation is: a) a pair of flip flops for the time you wander around the beach b) a good pair of shoes for your night out. It would be wise to pack a pair of sneakers as well, since some of the most beautiful beaches are hidden in more adventurous places.  Imagine walking down a craggy trail or a hill to reach them, in any case you should be prepared. This is one of the best ways to explore your destination to the fullest!

3. Beauty products & jewellery

The less bottles you lug, the better. You can buy your shampoo, conditioner and bubble bath upon your arrival. There is no need for you to carry it around the whole journey. Find a travel size product, so that you can get by until the end of your vacation. Have in mind that many hotels also offer some of that kind of products. Do check with your hotel for the room facilities. If they have a hairdryer you’ll get more free space for something special that you wouldn’t dream of leaving behind… Finally, avoid taking heavy or precious jewellery with you when travelling. Ask yourself if you really need it!

4. Towels

Even if you are one of those people who take their own towel everywhere, please do yourself a favour and resist the temptation! Hotels and other accommodation always offer facial and body towels. Also, you could be more careful when selecting which sea towels to take with you; prefer smaller and lighter towels, as they dry out even faster under the sunny sky!

Managed to read all the above? Well then, you are set! Start packing your things and off you go...

Have a nice trip!
