1. Moussaka

Courgette balls (kolokythokeftedes) are crispy balls with zucchini, mint and creamy cheese on the inside. It is a veggie starter and a very popular dish in Crete, which however you can find all over Greece.

7. Tomato fritters

Tomato fritters (tomatokeftedes) are the alternative to courgette balls, if you don't like zucchini. Basically, they are dried tomatoes fried with flour. They are also a veggie starter and are very popular in Santorini.

In this appetiser or dessert, feta is wrapped in filo pastry and then, is baked or fried, before honey is put on the top. The combination of salty feta and sweet honey create an amazing taste.

Pastitsio is baked pasta with minced meat and béchamel sauce. It is the alternative to moussaka, but with spaghetti instead of vegetables.

10. Souvlaki

Souvlaki is the most famous street food in Greece, if not in Europe. Chicken or pork meat, combined with tzatziki, tomato, French fries and onion, is wrapped in a pita. It is cheap, delicious and the perfect food after alcohol.
