Patmos is not only a summer destination. Thanks to its reputation as the place where Saint John wrote the Apocalypse, it is a popular religious destination for pilgrims all over the world. If you are interested in this strong spiritual character of this Greek island, the best time to visit it is not summer when it is crowded due to its tourism, but in the fall, the winter or the spring when the weather is good and the ferry deals amazing, and you can feel the quiet and mystical vibes of Patmos.

The Monastery of Saint John

Constructed on the top of a hill above Chora, the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian belongs to the most important religious centres in Greece and Europe. It looks like a fortress, but inside, you will visit a monastery, which is built on the site of an ancient temple. You can also see a Byzantine church and the museum.
