Travel tips for couples

Greece ● 28 April 2017

The couple that travels together stays together. This is something that all travelling couples say, and it is true. Travelling can make couples happier. The vacations with your other half can make you both happier and the relationship stronger. You spend time together, explore new places and things, create travel stories that belong only to you, share a common goal and realise if your relationship is right. Although this is the purpose of a trip, spending time together with another person for many days can be a little tricky. Travelling together can bring arguments about the hygiene, the packing and the program. With these tips, you can protect your relationship from stress and turn your vacations into a positive experience that both will remember with smile and happiness.

The first thing to do is to manage your expectations. Everyone, who travels, wants to relax and forget everything, but travelling can also involve some level of stress. You have to organise everything, and you are in a new environment. Give time to yourself to get adapted to the new situation, and don't blame your relationship because you don't feel relaxed and happy all the time.

Furthermore, you should divide the responsibilities. You will maximise your assets as a couple, if everyone makes the things he/she wants according to his/her strengths. Talk about these responsibilities before you get on the plane and make sure you have put some goals that help you out in the new environment.

Don't forget to keep track of money. The bills are something that can bring a lot of arguing in the couples, so make a conversation before landing. Who will pay the accommodation and who the food or the drink? Maybe, someone can keep the receipts, and then find out who owes what to whom. Another solution is to have a common wallet for these days. Both of you will contribute the same amount of money at the beginning of each day, and no one will be in the difficult position to pay more.

Don't be afraid to move out of your comfort zone. If the travel styles in the couple are different, this is a problem if no one wants to make something different. If you are willing to explore a different life style and make compromises, then, you will enjoy a combination of your two styles that will be a unique experience. Compromising is the golden rule in a relationship, and that is also valid during the vacations.

Last but not least, allow yourself and your partner time alone. You don't have to be together 24/7. Spend some time in the store while your partner is chilling in the hotel room, or swim while your partner is sunbathing under the warm sun. Independent people can always be happy and relaxed.
