Travelling to Arachova

Arachova ● 14 September 2017

Arachova is a well-preserved traditional town and the most famous winter and ski destination in Greece. Arachova is very popular thanks to the Ski Centre of Parnassos in a close distance to it as well as its natural beauty, its rich history and the impeccable architecture with the stone buildings built amphitheatrically on the cliff.

Only 2 hours drive from Athens, the Ski Centre of Parnassos is a convenient ski resort for a weekend away from the Greek capital. It is well-organised, with new lifts and slopes that can satisfy even the most demanding skier as well as the fans of other winter sports, such as snowboard and langlauf. Plus, it has a nice chalet, which is a must spot to see and to be seen.

If you are not a fan of winter sports, the Mountain of Parnassos is perfect for other activities too, a natural heaven with rare flora and fauna. You can hike from Delphi Town to the cave of Korykeion Andron, or have a tour at the mountain by jeep, endure or mountain bike.

Arachova town has a bustling nightlife to offer, which makes the village a cosmopolitan winter destination. You can find there traditional coffee shops, luxury restaurants, modern bars and crowded clubs with elegant cocktails. You can have a stroll in the narrow, paved streets of the village and discover its traditional character, and then, enjoy the variety of places to have fun however you want. You will also find a plethora of hotels and romantic guesthouses to choose where you can spend a fantastic weekend.

In Arachova town, you will also have an unforgettable culinary experience. Sarmades (stuffed grape leaves), hilopites (egg noodles), trahanas (sweet or sour pasta soup) and the local cheese formaela are only some of the specialties of Arachova with a unique, typically Greek taste you will love. You can also buy these products from one of the various local shops that sell nice things and small gastronomic paradises that will remind you of Arachova back home.

Arachova is located in a very close distance to the archaeological site of Delphi where you can explore the Greek culture and archaeology. In Delphi, you can visit the Oracle, the Temple of Apollo, the Theatre, the Stadium and the Archaeological Museum of Delphi, and you will be glad to see one of the most important testaments of the ancient Greek civilisation, the centre of the world as ancient Greeks believed Delph was.

From Arachova, you can also do many excursions to the beautiful seaside towns of Itea and Galaxidi. They are stunning little towns by the sea, with colourful neoclassical houses and fish taverns that will impress you with the combination of mountain and sea in a so close distance to each other.
