Trip Around Peloponnese

Significant monuments, unique settlements, picturesque towns and captivating castles combined with natural beauties, mountains and forests, rivers and caves, beautiful beaches with rocky and lacy coasts, all these make Peloponnese a wonderful place, an ideal destination for every season.

Lets begin a unique trip around coastal Peloponnese.

Corinthos Canal

We will head south of Athens towards Peloponnese, our first stop will be at Corinthos Canal, which belongs to the regianal unit of Corinthia. It was constructed between 1880-1893 to connect the Saronic with the Corinthian bay. We can also visit the Acropolis of ancient Corinth, with the impressive castle and the temple of Aphrodite which has a stunning view.

We will head west. Our next spot will be Patras, the capital of the regional unit of Achaia. Patra is the capital of joy, home of the Greek Carnival. It is an important port and it would be worth it to visit the medieval castle, the important winery of "Achaia Claus", the temple of Saint Andrew and the New Archeological Museum. Outside Patra is the cable-stayed bridge of Rio-Antirio which connects Peloponnese with western Greece.

Ancient Olympia

We continue West, to the regional unit of Ilia, a place with reach plantation, olive and pine trees. The most important sight to visit here, is of course ancient Olympia . Olympia was a glorious sanctum, devoted to Zeus, the father of the Gods. The first Olympic games were held in Olympia in 776 B.C. and they continued to be held every four years, during the ancient times.

We move on to southwesten Peloponnese. Here we will find Mani, a land full of stony towers which belongs to the regional units of Messinia and Lakonia. This is why we can refer to "outer" Mani for the Messinian part and to "inside" Mani for its Lakonian part. The first region is leafy with cooler climate and the second one is luminous, with dry climate.

In the most southern edge of Peloponnese, also in Lakonia lies the Medieval town of Monemvasia , a fairytaly scenery with multiple cultural influences and rare beauties. It is called Gibraltar of the East since it is a rock, in smaller scale, with similar shape to the one in Gibraltar.

Our last stop will be in Nafplio the capital of the regional unit of Argolis.Nafplio is one of the most beautiful towns in Greece, it used to be the capital of the new established state of Greece. It would be worth it to visit the Palamidi fortress, to enjoy the breathtaking view and to have a walk to Acronafplia, which used to be the ancient Acropolis of Nafplio.
