What to see and do on Ios Island

Ios island is known for its beautiful, unspoiled nature and its epic nightlife. Pure, authentic, cosmopolitan and vibrant, Ios is a perfect destination for those who look for fun, but also for those who like peace of mind and simplicity.

1. Mylopotas Beach

You can't miss this beautiful beach as it is the one that is very close to the Chora (centre) of the Island and it is also the meeting point for everyone visiting Ios. The beach of Mylopotas is wide with beautiful gold sand, and has various beach bars and taverns one next to the other along the beach. The bars of Mylopotas organise day parties and music events with Dj's during the summer and they usually have loud music and lots of fun.
However, if you want to keep a distance from all of this and keep yourself away from it, you can do it right there on the same place. Choose a quite tavern or cafe and enjoy the people passing by and of course the crystal clear blue water of the sea.

Where to go:
Farout beach bar is the epic spot where all the youngster meet to dance and party during the day, Free beach bar is the luxurious side of the beach life of Mylopotas and Harmony bar and restaurant the lounge, bohemian vibe at its best!

2. Panagia Gremniotissa

This wonderful little church is located on the highest hill in the Chora of Ios and it offers a spectacular 360 view of the Chora and the Aegean sea. Walk along the picturesque alleys inside the Chora and follow the signs that lead you to the top of the hill. Be there for the sunset, it is just amazing! This Byzantine church was built where a venetian castle used to be and it is situated on the eastern part of the island.
Make sure you bring your camera with you as this is one of the best places to take pictures of your trip in the whole Cyclades!

Top Tip: You can't drive to reach the top, you can come on foot so make sure you wear comfortable shoes!

3. Agia Theodoti Beach

This quiet, gorgeous beach is located on the northeast side of the island and it is ideal for families, couples, and group of friends who are looking for a break away from the endless party vibe of Ios island.
It is just 9km from the Chora of the island and you can get here either by car or by bus or taxi.
It is a large, sandy beach that is great for water sports.
It is very easy to get around with the local bus around the island, the ticket start from 1,5 Euro depending on where you want to go. The buses are new and comfortable so your short journey will be fine.

Top Tip: It is a nudism friendly beach and it is partly organised.

4. Odysseas Elytis Theatre

This is probably one of the most beautiful modern theatres in Greece! Although it was built in the recent years by a German architect who was in love with the island it is actually a copy of a Roman- Greek theatre. The location of it offers a stunning view over Mylopotas beach and the Aegean sea.
This gorgeous theatre is dedicated to Odysseas Elytis a famous Greek poet who was born in the 30s who was awarded with a Nobel price. If you are lucky you can enjoy concerts or theatrical plays in the theatre while you are on Ios island.
In any case it is one of the most amazing sightseeing on the island and the best time to visit it is in the afternoon or early evening before the sunset.

Top Tip: You can get here by car and park right below the theatre. But you can also get here on foot. Again your camera is the necessary gadget you need to bring with you!

5. Manganari Beach

This is one of the locations where the epic movie "Deep Blue" was filmed back in the 80s. Crystal clear water, tranquil surrounding, a stunning beach shape and totally unspoiled Manganari is ideal for families, kids and all of those who are looking for relaxation while they are on the island of Ios. The beach is partly organised and has a couple of taverns with traditional Greek cuisine right on the beach.
You can get here with the local bus, by sailing boat, by taxi or a car. There is a big parking area so no worries about finding a place for your vehicle.

Top Tip: This is the "other side' of Ios island where tranquility and peace are protagonists!

And don't forget to book your FERRY PASS TO THE GREEK ISLAND!
