Why travel at Christmas is the best way to enjoy your holidays

Greece ● 25 December 2016

The first thing we think of when we hear the word Christmas is the Birth of Christ or moments with our family at home. However, beyond these obvious answers, Christmas is an awesome time of the year to explore the world. Maybe, for many of you, Christmas travel has probably never even entered your thoughts, but before considering it a crazy idea, you should read this article.

Holiday seasons are the time to spend with your family and friends, but the value in travelling at Christmas is so great that perhaps the positives outweigh the negatives. Flying in December is not one of the cheapest times to fly, even to countries such as Greece that are popular during the summer months, but Christmas day is one of the cheapest days. If you can arrange your travel schedules to fly on December 25, you can find incredibly low fares around the world. You can spend Christmas Eve with your family, and then, start your trip and fly out on Christmas day.

Moreover, Christmas travel not only allows you to experience a new destination, but it can allow you to encounter the local festivities and learn about the customs in the country you want to explore. In the destination you visit, you will enjoy picturesque scenery, probably with snow, the sound of bells jiggling and a traditional Christmas market to shop local products and tree ornaments. There is nothing quite like experiencing European Christmas markets, drinking mulled wine and feeling the love in the air and the great atmosphere of the festivities.

Christmas holidays are also the best time to relax. The winter months, when you miss all the daylight at work, are difficult, but Christmas travel is an opportunity to break up the daily routine and enjoy an amazing vacation. When you return home after your trip, you will feel refreshed, and spring will be around the corner.

If you have never travelled during the Christmas season, this trip will be for sure one of the best experiences of your life. In Greece, there are many top winter and Christmas destinations where you can enjoy the Christmas atmosphere and try winter sports. Visit for example Athens, Arachova, Kalavrita, Zagorochoria, Thessaloniki or Kastoria, and you will be impressed by the fact that there is beauty in these places not only in summer but also in winter and especially during Christmas time.
