Greek Island Hopping: the best routes

Amorgos ● Folegandros ● Kos ● Koufonisi ● Mykonos ● Naxos ● rhodes ● Santorini ● Sifnos ● Symi ● 06 March 2018

Summer 2018 is closer than we think, and now is time to organise our vacation. Greek Island Hopping is your best chance to see several Greek islands and enjoy the most beautiful destinations. Before booking your hotels and ferry tickets, read here the top routes to do, written by a local, who has visited all these islands multiple times. And remember: ideal for the routes between the islands is a ferry pass, which gives you the flexibility of travelling whenever you want at a price of only one ticket, such as Greek Island Pass (learn more)!

The star

Mykonos and Santorini are the queens of Aegean Sea. Everybody knows these islands, everybody wants to visit them. Wild nightlife, cosmopolitan atmosphere, stunning golden beaches with luxury beach bars and world-class DJ's for Mykonos, the volcanic caldera, the whitewashed villages at the edge of the cliff, the famous sunset for Santorini. Two totally different islands that give you the opportunity to visit the top of what Greek tourism has to offer, see the ultimate beauty, have fun and take amazing pictures.

Mykonos

The off-the-beaten-path

Naxos is an island that combines various advantages: culture (Portara at the port and the ancient temple of Demeter are definitely worth visiting), gastronomy, the Venetian castle, traditional mainland villages, such as Apiranthos, and long sandy beaches, such as Agios Prokopis and Mikri Vigla. After Naxos, you can visit Koufonisi, a tiny island with turquoise waters that makes you feel like swimming in the Caribbean Sea. Amorgos is also another option in a close distance to Naxos, and this route you can make affordably with Greek Island Pass by Hostelbay. Amorgos is characterised by wild dry nature, beautiful white villages and secluded beaches with crystal clear waters.

Koufonisi

The romantic

If you want to spend some days lost in the total blue, in the middle of Aegean Sea, walking around the paved streets of elegant settlements and eating in romantic restaurants with great sunset view, then Sifnos, Folegandros and of course Santorini are the best islands. Sifnos is distinguished by its well-preserved Chora and the Medieval Castle that overlooks the sea and reflects mystical vibes, while Folegandros has a Chora at the edge of a steep cliff, which can easily compete Santorini. If you visit these three islands in a row, one thing is for sure: at the end of your vacation, you will feel relaxed and full of lovely memories.

Sifnos

The cosmopolitan

In the island complex of the Dodecanese, Rhodes, Symi and Kos have something different to offer to you, an experience between East and West. Rhodes with the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Medieval Town, the ancient sites of Kamiros and Lindos, the vivid nightlife and the astonishing beaches is the star of the Dodecanese with thousands of visitors each year. Nearby, Symi is a small island with colourful neoclassical houses in a port that looks like a painting and cosmopolitan restaurants, bars and clubs to have the time of your life. Kos is famous for its rich history, which dates back to Hippocrates, as well as its exotic Chora with its medieval castle combined with ancient remnants inside the modern city.
