The beautiful villages of Santorini

Cyclades ● Santorini ● 23 May 2017

Santorini, this stunning island with the unique beauty, owes its popularity and fame not only to its wine but also to its amazingly beautiful villages, which are located on the slopes of caldera or by the sea. Especially the villages with the view of the caldera offer their visitors feelings that cannot be described by words since the landscape is something that nobody has ever seen before.

1. Fira

Fira Santorini is the capital of the island and the biggest town with view of the caldera. It is the most vivid part of Santorini, where you can do anything you want: relax and spend romantic moments or party with your friends in one of the numerous bars and meet new people. All kind of shops, like restaurants, cafés, boutiques and night clubs can be found here, but in the summer, Fira Santorini gets very crowded, and thousands of tourists take a walk in its traditional pebbled streets.

2. Oia

The most beautiful and romantic village of Santorini is Oia, the second small town of the island on the opposite direction to Fira Santorini. Calmer, quieter and more elegant than Fira Santorini, Oia is the ideal place to feel the mystery of caldera, listen to classic music in one of the wonderful cafés and bars, eat in a luxury restaurant and of course enjoy the sunset with your other half. The sunset in Oia and generally the romanticism of this picturesque village have made Oia the ultimate honeymoon destination worldwide.

3. Firostefani

Firostefani Santorini is basically a suburb of Fira Santorini, and it provides you with an alternative option to the crowds. Small, with traditional whitewashed houses on the cliff, Firostefani Santorini is the ideal place to eat dinner, drink your cocktail or stay in a luxury hotel with the pool hanging literally above the caldera.

4. Imerovigli

Imerovigli (Santorini) is located right next to Firostefani Santorini, and it is also a quiet village to spend relaxing moments. Here, you will mainly find hotels that offer their visitors unique view of the caldera, peace and privacy. Imerovigli (Santorini) is at the highest point of the caldera, being an excellent alternative to Oia for the time of the sunset.

5. Akrotiri

Akrotiri Santorini is an unspoiled village near the famous Red Beach (Santorini) and  Akrotiri Minoan Site (Santorini), the prehistorical archaeological site, whose visit is one of the best excursions in Santorini. In Akrotiri Santorini, you can spend a day combining the visit to the archaeological site with the Red Beach (Santorini) or eating in a local tavern and exploring the lovely churches of the village.

6. Emporio

Emporio Santorini, located in the southern site of the island, is a medieval mainland village with traditional character and a Castle. Surrounded by windmills and vineyards, Emporio Santorini can be combined with a wine-tour in one of the vineyards nearby, a tour that will amaze you.
