Tips when travelling to Cyclades

Cyclades ● 09 May 2017

Cyclades is a unique island complex, which gives you many reasons to visit it. Wild and dry, hospitable and magnificent, with small white traditional towns and villages as well as stunning beaches and turquoise waters, the islands of Cyclades are the favourite destinations of the Athenians, who considered them to be the exact representation of summer. If you have decided to spend your vacations in Cyclades, here, you can find some tips that will help you to feel better and enjoy more your days in one of these amazing islands.

Get sunscreen protection

The sun shines in Cyclades the whole day. The possibility of rain or cloudiness during the summer months is extremely low. Furthermore, there are no trees and consequently no shadow in the most places. Don't forget to put your sunscreen protection cream before leaving your hotel. Otherwise, you will get burned from the first day.

Sunshine in Greece

Take an umbrella and water on the beach

On the popular islands of Cyclades, like Mykonos or Paros, most beaches are organised, with umbrellas, sunbeds and beach bars or taverns on the beach. However, on many unspoiled islands, like Amorgos and Anafi, the beaches are unorganised. If you don't want to risk sunstroke or heatstroke, take on the beach an umbrella and much water.

Be prepared for strong winds

Wind is an essential element of Cyclades. Mykonos is called the island of the winds, and also on other islands, such as Tinos, the strong north wind of the Aegean Sea, which is called meltemi, blows the whole day. However, this is not bad because it brings the breeze of the sea and prevents from high temperatures that would be a nightmare on these islands without shadow, but be prepared for that and hold your hat!

Have a jacket at night

Due to the wind, at night, the temperature may be low, and you may need a jacket, especially if you eat on a restaurant or drink a cocktail by the sea.

Avoid nausea

If you have nausea, don't take the caique to visit a beach or another island. Going on the beach by a caique or a small boat, is a unique experience, but the waves of the sea may frighten you or cause you nausea.

Visit more than one island

Island-hopping is an unforgettable experience, and the islands of Cyclades are ideal to live it. Even if you have booked accommodation and tickets to only one island, you can make a day-trip to another island in a close distance to it (30 minutes or 1 hour by boat). Don't miss this great experience!
