Why you should visit Greece in the fall

There is no doubt that Greece is a favourite vacation spot for summer, when many tourists come to enjoy the sun and the sea. The problem is that summer ends and everyone should go back home, where rain and cold is the daily routine. But have you ever considered making an alternative option and spending your vacations in Greece in autumn? There is always a good reason to do so and here you will find many of them.

The weather

The real winter in Greece lasts actually only 2 or 3 months, from December to February. In autumn the weather is still good, the sun shines, the sea is still warm and it rains rarely. The temperature is not as high as in July or August, but this is not bad. The water temperature is warmest in early autumn, because the sea temperature takes longer to cool down than the air temperature and you will feel more comfortably, especially if you are struggling in severely hot weather.

Cheap holidays

The cheaper time of the year in Greece is now. Accommodation is considerably cheaper in the fall and you can find a luxury room even 80% below its initial price and without having to book it in advance.

Quiet, uncrowded places

Have you had the unpleasant experience of waiting patiently in a restaurant or lying on a beach full of people and little kids? In the fall you can forget such annoying incidents. The crowds are significantly less, the shopkeepers relaxed and everyone can offer you better services than in August.

Nature and culture

Nature has a unique beauty in autumn, when the mountains and the forests dress up in vibrant pink and orange colours of a nature that is ready to sleep before winter, whereas the smell of the earth after the rain is wonderful. Furthermore, you can visit the numerous archaeological sites in Greece and especially in Athens without the overwhelming heat and humidity of the summer, walk around them and have the time to explore them. Hiking is also an activity you can do only in autumn and Greece has a lot of imposing mountains, like Pindos, Olympos, Parnassos and Helmos.
